1. Friends: The Sofa Scene
Everyone over the age of 18 knows the American TV hit show Friends, although did you know it started 30 years ago? The story of a group of hapless 20-something friends living in New York, Friends (1994-2004) still has a huge following throughout its ten-season run, and had its fair share of bloopers.
Known for its iconic outdoor sofa in front of a fountain and its comfy sofa in ‘Central Perk’, the famous coffee shop they all frequented, one standout moment involves a very different sofa.
In this scene, the friends are trying to move a large, heavy sofa up a narrow staircase while Ross (played by David Schwimmer) repeatedly shouts, ‘Pivot!’, as they struggle to push the unwieldy sofa around the bend. The actors' inability to keep straight faces in the face of this comical predicament ends in hilarity that is forever captured in this classic Friends blooper.
The full series of all ten seasons is available to watch on DVD and various streaming platforms.
2. Hot Fuzz: The Interview Scene
The British buddy-cop action-comedy film, Hot Fuzz has become a modern classic. Starring and co-written by Simon Pegg who you might remember from Shaun of the Dead (2004) and The Worlds End (2013), the film centres around Police Sergeant Nicholas Angel (Pegg) and his buddy, Constable Danny Butterman, played by Nick Frost, as they investigate a series of mysterious incidents in a West Country village.
This interview scene with fellow comedy heavyweights, Steve Coogan and Martin Freeman, where Angel is told he’s being promoted, had to be shot a number of times and it’s obvious they all had a lot of fun! You can watch the full film on DVD or various streaming platforms.
3. Bridesmaids: The Food Poisoning Scene
Finally, in the American comedy film Bridesmaids (2011), a group of bridesmaids gets struck by a nasty bout of food poisoning - while trying on expensive dresses in a very upmarket bridal shop with all white decor! As they desperately search for a bathroom, the situation becomes increasingly chaotic and, well, explosive in every sense of the word!
What makes this blooper even funnier is the fact that most of the cast couldn't hold back their laughter during the filming of this rather disgusting scene. It's a testament to the cast's comedic prowess and their ability to turn an unpleasant situation into a laugh-out-loud moment.
