Summer is edging ever closer, and we could not be more excited. We’re picturing hazy evenings sat outside with our friends and family, not even worrying about our heating bill. Bliss! However, your vape doesn’t like summer as much as you do. It finds it harder to work in the heat - to be fair, don’t we all! – and so it needs special care during the warmer months. Don’t worry though, it’s nothing you won’t be able to handle. Here are just a few little precautions you can take to make your summer vaping journey smoother than one of our e-cig flavours.

How to care for your vape in hot weather

If you want to keep enjoying your vape all summer long, try:

1. Keeping your vape out of direct sunlight, and avoid leaving it in a hot car. Ideally, you should also remove the battery when not using your device. Why? Because high temperatures can cause your vape battery to overheat, which is a safety risk. If you’re extra worried about this, you could also invest in a vape case or sleeve to help protect your device from the heat.

2. Making sure you store your e-liquid in a cool, dark place, as vape liquid can thin out and lose flavour in high temperatures. We’re sure no one wants to start vaping on a hot day and realise their favourite summer flavour has faded.

3. Keeping your device clean and well-maintained, as dirt can cause it to overheat more easily. This is true all year round, but summer is when you should be particularly on the ball with your vape cleaning routine.

How to care for yourself while vaping in the heat

It’s not just your vape you have to think about under the hot sun, with the most important thing to look after being yourself! If you’re planning to vape outdoors in hot weather, or to be honest if you are just outside in the heat, it’s also important to stay hydrated. Make sure you drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks in the shade to avoid getting too hot.

Tips for keeping a sand-free vape in the summer months

Hot weather and beaches in the UK go together like fish and chips, and although most good UK beaches are normally packed and sweaty as soon as the temperature hits 18°C, we still find ourselves flocking there every year.

But if you want to take your vape with you on your UK staycation, you might want some tips for avoiding the dreaded sandy vape:

1. Try to find a spot on the beach where you’re protected from the wind – that way you’re less likely to have sand blown into your vape. If the wind is blowing directly at you, wait for it to die down before you start vaping again, or try to find a new beach position.

2. Remember your beach mat or towel! This will provide a clean, flat surface for you to put your vape on when you’re not using it, and will create a barrier between the device and the sand.

3. Keep your vape upright, as if your vape is lying on its side, it's more likely to collect sand. If you don’t want to hold it up all the time, you could create a make-shift stand out of some books or snacks!

4. Cover up your vape when you’re not using it by keeping it covered with a cap or a protective sleeve, if you have one.

5. Pack a cleaning kit. Even if you’re being careful, it's possible that some sand might find its way into your vape. Pack a cleaning kit that includes a soft brush, cotton swabs, and cleaning solution. That way, if you do get sand in your vape it’s not a big deal. Simply use the brush to gently remove it and the cotton swabs to clean out all the nooks and crannies.
