Vaping Inside? Here’s How It Affects Your Surroundings

How do you choose to enjoy your vape? Are you a social vaper who’s comfortable hanging out with others? Or are you a solo vaper who prioritises cosiness and comfort? Whatever your preferences, it helps to take a conscious approach to your surroundings when you vape.

Whether you use a pod vape system like blu bar kit or blu 2.0, a refillable vape like blu PRO or a disposable vape like blu bar 1000, you might be interested to know more about vaping indoors especially if you often snuggle up and enjoy some quality time with your blu vape in the comfort of your own home.

So, what effect will the vapour have on your surroundings? Does vaping stain walls? Here, we have all the answers to your questions around indoor vaping.

How long does vape smoke stay in the air?

One of the main questions people have about vaping indoors revolves around how long vapour lingers in the air. More specifically, people tend to question: does vape smoke linger?

According to a 2018 study produced in the Nicotine & Tobacco Research journal by four organisations, including blu’s parent company Fontem Ventures, vapour particles evaporate within seconds of exhaling:

"…for e-cigarettes the particle concentration returned rapidly to background values within seconds”

For e-cigarettes, the same study found that even in a room with no ventilation, the liquid aerosol droplets evaporated so quickly that the particle concentration in the air returned to background levels within seconds.

In contrast, for conventional cigarettes, the particle concentration in the room only returned to background levels after 30-45 minutes. This means that e-cigarette vapour particles evaporate significantly quicker than smoke from traditional cigarettes.

Dr Grant O’Connell, Corporate Affairs Manager at Fontem Ventures and senior author of the study, said: “This data adds to the growing body of evidence that vaping indoors is unlikely to pose an air quality issue.” However, more research is needed to confirm this.

You may know how damaging heavily smoking inside can be to a home, staining walls and furnishings an unflattering shade of brown. So, you may be asking, does vaping stain walls?

Luckily, the effects of vaping inside are much less dramatic. Vaping can leave a residue on walls that can attract dirt, however, any staining typically takes a long time to build up, and stains can be easily cleaned off using a wet cloth. If you want to minimise staining even further, try vaping near an open window, or in a room with plenty of ventilation.

Does vaping inside leave a long-lasting smell?

Likewise, though some people may notice that vaping inside leaves a slight odour, this is much less noticeable than that of traditional cigarettes smoke. Again, this can be reduced by ensuring good ventilation throughout your home.

Does vaping leave a smell on clothes?

Whether or not your vape leaves a smell on clothes is mostly determined by how well ventilated a room is. When out and about, it’s highly unlikely that you’ll walk into a room with your clothes smelling like vapour, but in poorly ventilated rooms, a slight scent could be picked up.

Remember, clothes are made of fibrous materials which inherently trap smells deep inside – the best way to avoid your clothes smelling of your vape is to get the right ventilation in place.

Does vape smoke stick to furniture?

Much like with clothing, there is always a possibility of your vape transferring its smell onto your furniture. Thankfully, these scents are generally more pleasant when compared to traditional cigarette smoke, and do tend to fade away much quicker.

However, this also depends on the kind of furniture you have. Veneered wood finishes are less porous than fabrics, and will therefore be less susceptible to retaining smells from their environment, for example.

So, is it safe to vape indoors?

Ultimately, only you can decide whether you want to vape inside your home. Although vaping outside is recommended, vaping inside may be fine for someone who isn’t afraid of a little extra cleaning once in a while. Not to mention, a whole lot warmer!
