Travelling with your e-cigarette: can I vape on a cruise?
Cruises are the lap of luxury. With unlimited food and drink, hundreds of services on deck, and exotic locations to visit almost every day, a cruise is your chance to kick back and relax.
Of course, while on your cruise, if you’re a vaper, you’ll want to have your trusty vape pen nearby. From a short relaxing vape on your balcony to walking around newfound locations, vape in-hand, it helps to know what’s possible before heading out.
Vaping regulations vary depending on the cruise company you’re travelling with though. So, to help you find the right holiday experience for you, we’ve rounded up the vaping policies of all the major cruise liners (correct as of 2024). Happy holidays!
Can you take your vape on a cruise?
There usually aren’t restrictions on devices or liquids in personal luggage on cruise ships, although it’s always best to check with the travel company prior to your trip. With that said, the main question remains: can you bring a vape on a cruise?
On most occasions you’ll need to find a designated smoking area. Depending on the ship, these areas can be either indoors, outdoors, or a mixture – you might think that being out on deck is invitation enough to start vaping, but some cruise liners have rules on that, which we’ll detail below.
If you will be flying to a destination before you step onboard, make sure to check the rules regarding vapes and air travel.
Airlines allow vapes to be carried, but not in hold-luggage. There is worldwide legislation regarding this as they are deemed a fire risk. Instead, you will have to carry your e-cig on your person or in your hand luggage.

Before you pack your bags, you’ll want to make sure you’ve planned ahead and taken enough e-liquid or liquidpods to last you the entire trip, and that you have your charging cable with you.
If you are a blu PRO user, you may also want to take a spare clearomiser with you, depending on the length of the trip.
WHERE TO VAPE ON A CRUISE
OUTDOORS
For the most part, a lot of cruise liners will have no issues with you using your vape outdoors, and there are many cruise lines that allow vaping on balconies.
Just like how you would on land, there’s not a lot that can be done about your ability to vape outdoors – with utmost ventilation and very little chance of disturbing others with second-hand vapour, outdoors is usually a safe vaping place on cruises.
DESIGNATED SMOKING AREAS
Many cruises will have designated areas for smokers and vapers to use across the ship. Such places usually offer good ventilation and are located away from the majority of other holiday-makers and children’s facilities
AT LOCATIONS
The number one place to vape on a cruise, of course, is off the cruise! When you touch land and venture out to the unknown, you are free to explore and vape as however you wish.
Though, it is worth doing your research beforehand. Some countries have banned the sale of vapes all together, such as Argentina, Brazil, Cambodia, and Ethiopia to name a few.
From a casual vape while discovering a romantic side street in Italy to a quick puff while snacking on a French pastry, there are loads of outdoor areas for you to choose from off ship.
