Travelling with your e-cigarette: can I vape on a plane?
IS VAPING ALLOWED ON PLANES?
Unfortunately vaping isn’t allowed on planes – this applies to both domestic and international flights. Initially there was some confusion over whether vaping was permitted in airports and aboard planes themselves, as different airlines and airports had different sets of regulations. However, the rules have become more universal over the years.
IS VAPING ALLOWED IN AIPORTS?
Most airports now have some form of regulation on e-cigarettes. Depending on where you’re flying from, there are some designated areas where you’ll be able to take a quick vape break before flying – this is normally outside of the terminal building. The best thing to do is to check out your airport’s rules before packing your bags, so you know where you might be able to sneak off for a cheeky vape and where this won’t be possible.
CAN YOUR VAPE COME WITH YOU ON HOLIDAY?
When it comes to packing your bags, remember that e-cigarettes are not permitted in checked baggage but can (thankfully!) be taken in your hand luggage, as long as you’re travelling somewhere where e-cigarettes and vaping are allowed. This means that any e-liquids will need to be placed in a clear plastic bag as is the case with all other liquids taken through security, and this also means that you cannot take any container which has or can hold more than 100ml of liquid inside, onto the aeroplane.
Happily, all blu e-liquids come in 10ml capacity bottles, while our blu 2.0 liquidpods are 1.9ml each so there’s no need to start transferring your e-liquids into smaller containers.
With this in mind, make sure to consider how much e-liquid you’ll need for your trip, as depending on where you’re going, it might be tricky to purchase e-liquid or pods for your device at your intended destination. Some countries may not stock the blu flavours that you use, and furthermore some countries have stricter vaping laws than in the UK. To check out where you can buy blu abroad, read our article – remember you can always follow up with our Customer Service team if you have any questions.
Once you’ve been through security, it’s a good idea to wrap your e-cig and e-liquids in a paper towel or place them in a sealed container. This is because the change in pressure experienced as the plane climbs in altitude can cause the liquid to leak. If you’re a PRO user, remember that clearomisers can leak during the flight, so it’s a good idea to empty yours before take-off.
A further note is that you aren’t allowed to charge your e-cigarettes during the flight, so if you were thinking of bringing a power bank onboard to charge your device while you fly, think again! Of course, if you’re looking for a vape that doesn’t need to be charged, look no further than our range of flavour-filled disposable e-cigarettes.
We hope that helped make packing your bags a little less stressful, and your holiday a little more blissful without the worry of tracking down your vape liquids. For more information about vaping and travelling, check out our handy guide.
